PERIODIC INSPECTION OF BUILDING PARAPETS
Periodic Observation of Building Parapets (Section 28-301.1.1)
Who Must Comply?
Buildings that must comply:
● Any structure attached to or supported by a parapet.
● Any structure wall entirely above the roofline, facing a public right-of-way, public street, avenue, sidewalk, roadway, or any other public place or public way.
Buildings that are EXEMPT:
● 1- or 2-family homes.
● Buildings with a fence/other barrier preventing access to the exterior wall
Condition Assessment Report:
Starting on January 1, 2024, in accordance with the requirements of section 28-301.1.1 of the Administrative Code, every building owner must have an observation performed in accordance with this subdivision. Owners must hire a DOB-approved New York State licensed and registered Professional Engineer (PE) to inspect and file a condition assessment report at least once every six (6) years, which will classify the parapets or appurtenances in a similar process familiar to FISP.
